As part of my A Level Dt Project, I designed a sensory toy for children. Sensory products are used to help those with disabilities interact with the world around them in a safe environment, by creating a calming and comfortable atmosphere for distressed individuals. This was particularly important to me as my cousin Mia used to spend a lot of time in hospitals when she was little, however, like most children, she hated it. Once she was introduced to a sensory room which was built within the hospital she did not want to leave. This made me realise that there were ways that helped children enjoy their stay at a hospital more due to the items which surround them. A few of my DT portfolio pages can be seen as well as the final product where some parts were designed and cut using a laser cutter.
